AWARD FOR MERET BECKER & LUISE LANDAU

Ludwigshafen award goes to Meret Becker/Luise Landau for FAMILIE IS NICH:

The jury of the 20th ‘Festival of German Film Ludwigshafen am Rhein’ was impressed by the generally high quality of the films nominated for the LUDWIGSHAFENER FILMKUNSTPREIS 2024. A Ludwigshafen award goes to Meret Becker and Luise Landau for their wonderful portrayal of grandmother and granddaughter.

Jury statement:
A grumpy, lonely grandmother toils away on her farm in Brandenburg. The flippant parcel deliverer gets chased away with a shotgun. Then 8-year-old granddaughter Tilda suddenly enters her life. Her mother was sent to prison and Tilda needs a home. What starts out difficult develops into a story of love, convincingly staged and wonderfully acted. We enjoy watching grandmother and granddaughter struggle with each other. They both long for closeness and warmth, even if the grandmother hisses THERE IS NO FAMILY to greet them.
The two actresses, the highly experienced and versatile Meret Becker – who incidentally made her acting debut at the age of 11 alongside her mother – and the 10-year-old young actress Luise Landau – who stood in front of the camera for the second time here – harmonise sensitively and with great enthusiasm.
